Episode 9. Rooting Out the Fake (9)
We climbed onto the empty stage.
When we drew back the curtain and stepped behind it, half-formed 「Fake Humans」 greeted us.
The woman recoiled in horror at the sight.
“Oh my God……!”
I hurriedly clamped a hand over the woman’s mouth as she was about to scream.
She flinched and stared at me. I kept watch around us for a moment, then shook my head.

When the woman nodded in understanding, I slowly removed my hand.
We were currently taking the 「Fake Humans」 to the escape point.
That point was none other than backstage.
The backstage area that housed the stage equipment was as deep and broad as the auditorium.
Its ceiling was also far higher.
While the theater entrance and lobby rose only three floors, the backstage area rose six.
Its center was completely open, with only railed corridors stacked along the walls on every level.
And in the center, steel frameworks used to move stage equipment tangled together in a chaotic web.
If that had been all, the place would merely have looked as desolate as a construction site.
But hundreds of 「Fake Humans」 hung in clusters from those structures like fruit.
No, fruit was too pleasant a word. The sight resembled hundreds of corpses hanging from nooses.
