Gunfire at two o’clock.
Bang—! Bang—! Bang—!
Explosions at eleven o’clock.
Boom—! Boom—! Boom—!
And right beside me, Gwak Jae-gyeom was in the middle of a lively radio conversation.
—Jae-gyeom, how many dummies do you have left?
“Twenty-two now.”
—We’re in the B-7 minefield. Can’t you give us a few more dummies?
“Come on, no. We have to make it through Number 10 today, and we’re already cutting it close.”
—Hey, we’re only halfway through our section, and all our dummies are wrecked. The firepower on these mines is insane!
“What? Seriously?”
—Investigation of the sniper section in Area A-3 complete.
“Yong-su Hyung! Do you have any dummies left over there?”

Standing beside me, Gwak Jae-gyeom answered the radio calls flying in from all directions.
Not long afterward, the explosions that had briefly stopped rang out again.

“Wow, that really packs a punch.”
Gwak Jae-gyeom gave an unconcerned whistle.
Then, as though he had belatedly remembered me, he looked my way and asked,
“Hyung, are you okay? It’s a little loud today, isn’t it?”
