As they followed the path carved out by the passage of a massive Tier-4 demon, the sight left in its wake was nothing short of devastating.
The ground was slashed and torn apart where the roots of the demonic tree had spread, and scattered all around were the shriveled remains of humans and horses, their bodies blackened and drained. Though an extensive purification had been conducted, the corpses remained shriveled beyond recognition.
The Wolf Knights gathered the remains and gave them a rough burial, moving on to scavenge for any usable items amid the wreckage.
Fortunately, unlike living creatures that had been completely drained of life, the merchant company’s goods were mostly intact aside from minor physical damage. Some packhorses that had escaped to the outskirts and a couple of undamaged wagons were recovered as well, which sped up the knights’ work considerably.
