“He submitted a designated-hire request to the Guild.”
Günter glanced toward the window while processing his paperwork.
“Yes.”
“The fee must have been considerable. Why didn’t you have me pay it instead?”
“We attempted to pay it, but the Guild refused first.”
“…Really?”
There was nothing particularly remarkable outside the window.
A few trails of smoke from burning corpses, lights purifying the city, soldiers controlling the crowds.
“Unexpected. I thought they would merely reduce the fee.”
“The branch manager’s child apparently survived thanks to him.”
“Ah.”
“More importantly… the request itself was structured in a way that made it difficult to calculate a fee.”
“Really……?”
And a small group preparing to leave.
“Now I’m a little curious.”
Günter signed the final document and rose.
It was time to see off those who were leaving.

Because of the urgency of the situation, the preparations for departure proceeded without delay.
Unlike when they had arrived, they did not need to lead several dozen soldiers with them, which also helped speed things along.
The troops the Inquisitor had brought would remain behind for Münmunt, which would receive no additional reinforcements.
“Will this truly be enough?”
A knight who had come to see them off asked anxiously as he looked at the group, now reduced to a fraction of its former size.
He was the man commanding the reinforcements from Manhafelt.

They were people most accustomed to traveling in groups of around five to begin with.
