Not even five minutes had passed since they began racing through the streets.
Berserk raised an eyebrow at the commotion coming from deep within an alley.
“I hear more than twenty sets of footsteps.”
“Damn. Seems best to pull the people out and get moving, don’t it?”
Mistilteinn had evidently noticed the disturbance as well, because he naturally changed direction.
They entered the alley.
“Hold on! Hold on, damn it!”
“Fuck, how the hell are we supposed to hold—!”
“Well, I’ll be. Why the hell are those bastards here?”
Then Mistilteinn apparently recognized one of the voices, because he suddenly spouted something completely unexpected.
The drawn-out tone peculiar to someone utterly dumbfounded was unmistakable.
“They’re fighting a defensive battle using the building as cover. There are too many people to simply break through.”
“That’s what I’m saying. What the hell do we do with this?”
There were at least twenty ordinary civilians gathered there.
Berserk and Mistilteinn stopped at a distance where those people could not see them and thought briefly.
“I’ll lure them away. Rescue the others in the meantime.”
“That’d be mighty helpful. Got it.”
They did not deliberate for long.
For the sake of the people inside the building, whose condition was worsening by the moment, they reached a conclusion almost immediately.
Mistilteinn slipped into another alley in the blink of an eye.
Berserk, meanwhile, stood boldly in the center of the alley with an iron shield in one hand and a mace in the other.
