Commandment felt one of the mental barriers she had placed on another person shatter and glanced aside.
Beyond the currents of air trailing like smoke, an enormous dragon came into view.

She swept aside the hair whipping across her vision and tightened her grip on the parachute cords until they creaked.
In response, the deep-blue parachute she had chosen tilted slightly.
Fwap—!
Caught by an updraft, the parachute not only slowed its descent but began climbing, twisting slightly to one side.
Even so, half her field of view remained filled by the dragon’s gigantic body, and the thing she was searching for was nowhere to be seen.
Commandment’s eyebrow trembled.
Frrrr.
Meanwhile, the current that had briefly carried her upward weakened, and just as predicted, she began to fall again.
It was a rapid descent.
At that rate, her altitude might become dangerously low by the time she reached the barrier.

But this much was within expectations.
By right of being one of the researchers, she took out one of the spare items she had made—naturally, there were none for anyone else—and pushed its cap open with her thumbnail.
A thin membrane like a soap bubble bubbled out from the opening of the tiny container.
Float—
Transparent yet glossy, the membrane rose like a balloon and pressed against the inside of the parachute.
The cords blocked it midway, but the membrane simply split around them like water, then fused together again.
Passing through the cords, the round membrane touched the parachute fabric…
