Gulp. Gulp.
Inside the burning house, the mass of flesh finally swallowed an entire person whole.
Until then it had possessed only arms and had been smaller than the upper body of an adult Middle, but now its size swelled to roughly two and a half times what it had been.
“Ah, ah.”
And now it created not only arms, but new legs as well.
Using its limbs, it slipped nimbly through the collapsed timber.
It looked like a spider with only four legs.
Fwoosh!
“Ah.”
Of course, along the way its body was repeatedly scorched, burned, and melted by the flames.
Each time, pieces of flesh turned to ash and fell away as well.
The flesh that had grown larger began rapidly shrinking again.
Crunch!
Even so, it ultimately escaped the burning house, heading toward an alley with no people in it.
The pitch-black mass of flesh hid itself in the nighttime alley and began leisurely moving away from the scene of the fire.
“What the hell is that?”
“What? You see a rat or something?”
“No… It looked like some kind of slime—”
“Ah.”
And when it encountered the humans lurking at the far end of the alley, the mass of flesh split its body once more and formed a gigantic mouth.
Without so much as a sound escaping, two people met their ends that way.
