The girl who resembled me could not bring herself to speak first.
Her lips parted, then closed. Her wide eyes wandered aimlessly between me and the gift box. All the while, I merely waited in silence for my flesh and blood to react.
How much time passed?
The woman abruptly turned her head away and began to fidget. When her voice finally emerged, it sounded rather prim.
“……Are you an idiot?”
“Why?”
“Do you think I am a little child? Cookies, of all things…… I am ‘Greed’! I am the woman who possessed everything she ever wanted!”
Even as she spoke, the girl did not turn her gaze toward me. Only the heat reddening the rims of her ears hinted at what she felt.
I decided to listen quietly to the tearful complaints of my flesh and blood.
“A-And yet you bring me cookies? Nothing more than that? Ha, hah…… This is not even funny!”
She tried desperately to disguise the sobs mixed into her stammering words as laughter.
The girl pretended to be strong. I likewise had no intention of deliberately exposing the sincerity hidden beneath that facade.
“So, have you ever eaten them?”
“Why would I?”
Only around…
