Who was the person I could trust most to leave something in their hands?
There were countless people with whom I shared a relationship of trust. Perhaps I had simply been fortunate, but there was no shortage of good people around me. Most of my acquaintances, including my lovers, were people I could trust.
But if I had to trust someone and actually leave something in their care?
Then, beyond their character, all sorts of other criteria inevitably entered the equation, including their ability. For example, if what I needed was authority, wouldn’t Sien or the Saintess be the first people to come to mind?
Of course, the Emperor or Vilteon were also options.
But their positions were far too high. In other words, they weren’t people I could casually entrust with a personal matter. The expression ‘someone I can trust and leave it to’ implicitly contained a wide variety of factors like that.
Someone of fine character, outstanding ability, and a person with whom I could speak without reserve.
Such people were exceedingly rare. No matter how wide my circle of acquaintances…
