The contrast between red and white was sickeningly vivid.
I was thinking of the ‘Dark Priest’ lying sprawled before me. Even with his entire body pinned beneath the collapsed debris, the smile never left the devil’s face.
That blood-red arc drawn across his pallid skin.
It was a combination that inevitably drew the eye, all the more so when I could not guess what that smile meant.
“What is strange about it? Of course she is alive. Do you think I am like you people?”
I made my voice sound as composed as possible.
Behind me, my flesh and blood must have been even more flustered than I was. I therefore needed to maintain my calm, at least. At my tone of complete nonchalance, the slash-like curve at the corners of the Dark Priest’s mouth deepened.
As though my reaction meant nothing to him.
Perhaps he should be called a beast faithful to its desires. That thought suddenly occurred to me.
Perhaps the monster was speaking to me solely to satisfy his own curiosity.
His face displayed neither consideration nor altruism, not even a sense of duty.
“Oh, how pitiful…… Why have you not killed her yet?”
“I told you. I am not like you.”
