Dragons are mysterious beings.
They had been so since the distant past. They were the first of the seven lives fashioned at the beginning of creation, and they mediated between the races of the earth as proxies of the gods. In particular, the love they held for humanity remained famous even to this day.
Had it not been for that, humans would never have survived.
Every race had its own specialty.
Elves had their long lifespans and agility.
Dwarves had been blessed with natural muscle and dexterous hands from the moment they were created.
The same was true of the race that had been exterminated as the price for siding with the Evil God. Yet humans alone had been born with short lifespans and frail bodies.
Humanity had only one advantage.
The passing down of knowledge, and the speed of growth based upon it. Was that not ultimately why humans had seized hegemony over the continent?
But things had been different in the beginning.
In an age when there was literally nothing, dragons taught humanity fire and magic. They protected them as well, and even passed down various forms of knowledge so that humans could survive amid all the other races.
Where had such affection come from?
