“What the fuck is that?!”
“Senior!”
“I’m checking!”
Deathbringer hurriedly grabbed the head that remained alive despite having been separated from its body.
From what he could roughly infer, the bastard had no hostility toward them and also seemed to know what was causing the tremors.
“Talk before I crush your skull too, you bastard. What the hell did you do?”
“You believe I caused this earthquake? That is far too generous an assessment. I possess neither the time, materials, nor knowledge required to create magic on this scale.”
“Then who did it?”
“Obviously, a Great Demon.”
The head held in Deathbringer’s hand chuckled.
“More importantly, would you mind putting my head back on my body? I think I’m about to die. I don’t have any spare bodies left to transfer my soul into either, so if I die this time, I really will be dead.”
“Ha. You want me to save you? Why the hell should I?”
“Because I have no intention of harming you and possess more than enough ability to help you. Surely you’ve already realized that?”
“…Fuck. Seriously.”
The consequences that would follow either choice were heavy, but there was no time to agonize over them.
Deathbringer summoned and discarded dozens of thoughts while cursing this damned situation.
If only—
If only someone else would choose for him.
“What are you doing? Kill him!”
“Save him.”
Two voices pierced his ears at the same instant.
The former belonged to the Branch Chief.
The latter belonged to Skyla.
