Daniel cleaned up after the drinking session together with Meister. It was nothing more than putting back the chairs they had brought in from the next room, tidying up the food, and loading it back onto the trolley.
“Didn’t they tell us to leave it here?”
“Yes.”
If they did this much, the servants would take care of the rest. At least, that was what the Lord had said while bringing out the expensive liquor.
“…I think we should leave a note.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re obviously going to suffer tomorrow.”
There was a high chance the hangover would be miserable, so even leaving a note asking them to prepare the meal with that in mind would be far better. Hangover food might not be a cure-all, but surely it was better than having nothing at all.
“Hmm……?”
While doing so, Daniel discovered three pictures. He had been searching for a piece of paper or cloth to leave a message on when he found them.
One was filled with images that subtly symbolized death. Another was a portrait of a middle-aged couple bearing traces of having once gotten wet and then dried. The last had been blacked out until nothing could be made out.
“Why?”
“It’s nothing.”
This… seemed like something Meister should not see.
Daniel turned the pictures facedown before Meister’s gaze could reach them. There was other paper available for leaving a message anyway.
“Let’s go.”
There was no reason writing a short note should take long. He finished the sentence in an instant and placed it atop the trolley.
“Ah, when are we ever going to make it back to the lodging? Maybe I should’ve accepted when they offered me a room.”
“That would be a little…….”
“Why? Wouldn’t that be better than making them go through the trouble of letting us out of the castle in the middle of the night?”
