I’d be grateful if he did. I waved a hand while pretending not to notice the young man’s reddened eyes.
Windhand did the same. Deliberately keeping his gaze away from Deathbringer, he let out a loud, “Kahaha!”
“Sorry.”
“Forget it. You know I didn’t say that because I wanted an apology.”
Saying that, Windhand held something out to me. It was an ornament shaped so that it could seemingly be hung somewhere.
“Here. An early present.”
The wooden ribs forming its frame were roughly the size of my palm, but they were thin enough that the whole thing didn’t feel particularly large. Threads were stretched between those ribs like a spiderweb, and a jewel hung in the center.
Overall, it reminded me of something I knew.
「…It’s amber.」
Just then, the boy who hardly ever spoke suddenly muttered a few words. He was probably referring to the type of mineral set in the center.
“Amber?”
“Oh, you recognized it?”
I quietly looked down at the smooth stone. The deep orange gemstone had patterns inside that resembled rolling waves—or perhaps flames.
If the boy hadn’t said it was amber, someone as ignorant about gemstones as me probably would’ve spent quite a while wondering what it was.
“Well… more importantly, what is this for? It looks like some kind of ornament…….”
“It’s a dreamcatcher. A masterpiece from sea folk who love their superstitions.”
