I could feel sunlight spilling in around the edges of my sleep mask. Still dazed, I lifted the mask. Ding-dong! The doorbell rang once more, jolting my mind awake.
“J-Just a second!”
I scrambled out of bed, and Mandu came out after me. Clunk. Before I had even left the room, the sound of the front door opening reached my ears.
“Son, were you sleeping?”
“Uh, Mom.”
“Oh my. If I’d known you were asleep, we would’ve come a little later.”
“N-No, no. It’s okay.”
The visitor was my mother.
“Why are you still standing in the entryway?”

I took the bags from my mother and set them down roughly near the entrance. It was somewhere they wouldn’t get in her way when she came into the living room.
