What was a ‘god’?
A transcendent being beyond human understanding. Lurking in the lofty heavens or the unfathomable depths below, they never revealed their true forms easily.
There were scarcely any records of them manifesting upon the earth even in myth.
But with a battle that would determine the world’s fate at hand, perhaps one of them could deign to let us hear its vaunted voice. Just as it was doing now.
“Was that your advice? Not to take my younger sister to the front lines?”
“It will only add needless suffering.”
That was the answer to my question, which was tinged with a hollow laugh.
How should I put it? It sounded like a voice emerging from an empty doll. Her vocal organs were clearly functioning without issue, yet the voice lacked the elements indispensable to a human being.
Things like emotion or intonation.
Even her gaze was bizarre. Her unfocused pupils were so dim that they gave the impression of an animal whose sight had atrophied in a cave.
If I had to compare it to something, yes.
It felt like something inhuman imitating…
