A thick smell of burning permeated the forest.
Black smoke rose like mist, mimicking fumes. With hands behind his back, the old man gazing at the center of the trees where dark red lesions had spread uttered such incomprehensible words.
With each step, the dry leaves let out screams.
It was the height of winter, so breaths froze white. The cold stillness of the forest clashed starkly with the landscape that seemed ravaged by flames.
It probably wasn’t a simple fire.
No flames were visible, and what remained was only the dark red carbonized earth. The fact that not even heat could be felt made my ominous premonition grow even thicker.
My hand naturally reached toward my waist.
Whether or not, the old priest dressed in shabby robes continued his nonsense.
