The appearance of the giant Magical Beast threw the fleet into utter chaos.
Some ships, like the Judgment and the Wing of Glory, somehow managed to create defensive barriers of their own, while others panicked and began lowering lifeboats before anything else.
But those small boats often failed to withstand the waves surging toward shore and capsized before they could even reach the coastline.
The greatest problem was that the fleet’s chain of command was of absolutely no use in a situation like this. After all, there could hardly be an appropriate fleet-level response to a Magical Beast whose very existence no one had ever even imagined.
Only belatedly did General Lysandros hurriedly raise the blue flag signaling ‘scatter,’ but not a single captain was able to carry out the order properly.
How were they supposed to move their ships when they did not even have time to fully unfurl the sails?
In the end, each captain had no choice but to raise as much of a defensive barrier as possible and desperately struggle simply to keep their vessel from sinking.
