The waves Logan sensed boasted considerable accuracy, but they did not always point to the truth. That was because the information carried by those waves had already been distorted once through the perception and subjectivity of the one producing them.
In that sense, he could not simply take the wolfdog’s confident answer at face value. For all he knew, the creature might merely have reacted happily to the name of its master, “Lee Sungjin.”
To make an accurate judgment, he needed a more thorough process of verification. And so Logan sat the wolfdog down in front of him and began a serious conversation.
“First, I’m going to ask you a few questions that would be difficult for you to answer if you were Max. Can you answer them?”
Whine?
“As you know well, there is this famous passage in the Gospel of Saint Bastian: ‘Forgiveness is the fifth finger of the Supreme God; when you renew your heart and ask, how could He not bestow His mercy upon you?’ What chapter and verse is that?”
The wolfdog’s expression turned strangely subtle.
Mistaking what that expression meant, Logan hurriedly added an explanation.
“Of course, I know it isn’t easy for you to answer in your current condition. Could you perhaps bark a number of times corresponding to the answer?”
Yip!
Instead of answering, the wolfdog snorted and turned its head away.
Only then did Logan suddenly remember one crucial fact and become greatly flustered.
“Ah! Sorry. In my haste, I completely forgot that you never read scripture. Then let me ask you something simpler.”
Whine.
