Flames stirred.
Unlike the inferno blanketing the ruined world, these were mysterious flames that swelled of their own accord within the blowing wind.
“Good. Let’s invest just a little more Causality.”
Those dark-red flames neither spread wantonly across the ruins nor gave off any vicious heat. If anything, they merely burned away even the impurities in the murky atmosphere, making the surrounding air fresher and cleaner.
It was clearly a phenomenon that defied the laws of nature.
“Since I drew the best card, I ought to squeeze the greatest possible efficiency out of it.”
Newbie stood at the center of those incomprehensible flames. Within the vortex of fire circling his body as though to protect him, he calmly looked up at the overcast sky.
“I’ll use this opportunity to completely make up for not only my own backlash, but even the backlash Father suffered.”
The boy’s eyes shone with a brighter silver-gray glow than usual.
That still, inorganic gaze seemed to be pursuing something important invisible to ordinary eyes. It was a gaze that pierced beyond the phenomena visible on the surface, seeing straight through even the laws of the world lurking behind them.
‘Newbie….’
Owen stared at him, utterly overwhelmed.
‘Newbie right now… looks just like Father.’
