The confirmation wasn’t as shocking as Jio thought. The evidence had been so clear that it would have surprised her more to hear that they were someone else’s memories.
Jio stared at Fate Reader silently, and the celestial quietly tucked some of her hair behind her ear.
[There. I’ve given you the answer you wanted. Why aren’t you saying anything?]
“I’m thinking.”

“About when I should kill you.”
The hand froze.
Jio looked up from inside his arms. “What?”
The celestial said nothing.
“You were fine with letting me kill you when I didn’t know a thing about what was going on. But now that I do know, you’re not willing to do it anymore?” she asked.
Jio continued. “It looks like your goal is for me to reach the ‘Ancient Denouement’ or whatever it’s called. I think it would be far more efficient to kill you-the core self, so to speak-rather than go around killing the shadows of your past. Don’t you agree?”
The celestial’s face went rigid.
