The autumn sky is high and clear.
The night of the season when horses fatten up and farmers celebrate a bountiful harvest was bewilderingly quiet. Perhaps it was because the chirping of the grass insects that had rung in the ears throughout the summer had subsided.
Or maybe it was because the place I had come to was that secluded from human presence.
The observatory.
It was a building deeply connected to magic, alchemy, and astrology. Since long ago, the movements of the stars had often been perceived in relation to the will of the heavens.
However, to properly observe the celestial bodies, several conditions were necessary.
For example, things like visibility or light levels. I’m a swordsman, so I don’t know the details, but I once heard that observatories are built after considering various picky location conditions besides that.
As a result, the observatory ended up being located in a very remote place.
If you think about it even a little, it was an obvious story. Where civilization exists, light is bound to be born, and therefore, observatories that must avoid light as much as possible have no choice but to be chased into the wilderness.
That was the inside story of why the Academy’s observatory ended up being built in such a perplexing location.
