What is a ‘Master’?
They are beings who have reached the ultimate heights of martial arts and magic, becoming a ‘world’ unto themselves. Before them, the limits of physical law are utterly meaningless.
Because a ‘Master’s’ Mindscape overwhelms reality itself.
Their power surpasses imagination. They can face armies tens of thousands strong alone and alter the terrain with a mere gesture. For that reason, the balance of the continent has always depended upon their numbers.
After all, do not even the Three Nations each possess their own guardian deity?
The Sword Duke of the Empire.
The Saint of the Holy Kingdom.
The Archwitch of the Southern Allied Kingdoms.
By their mere existence, these three keep one another in check, maintaining the equilibrium of power like counterweights on a scale. Had that not been the case, it would hardly have been strange if the Empire had already begun another war of conquest.
In a way, it is the existence of the ‘Masters’ that prevents the devastation of war.
Thus, the scene before me was strange in several respects.
