Me, in the Agency’s rescue unit.
In a situation where taking care of myself alone was already overwhelming, I now had to go into a Ghost Story to save civilians.
‘Is this a dream.’
But it was reality.
And on top of that, I had to enter a Ghost Story right this second to save people.
7:30 p.m.
It had been exactly one hour and thirty minutes since the personality screening ended and I was appointed.
And yet I had already received agent equipment from headquarters at Bronze Agent’s urgent request.
And I had even been assigned one of the Agency’s public bicycles, and was currently riding it toward the site where the Ghost Story had manifested.
‘…The sun’s already gone down.’
Looking out into the darkening evening while riding a bicycle in this cold weather was chilling, and it really brought a lot of thoughts to mind….
“Civilians caught up in a supernatural disaster may also request rescue through the number printed on the guidance notices the Agency places in advance.”
Yes….
‘And I also know that number is the mysterious rescue number that occasionally works even inside Ghost Stories.’
Listening to an Agency-style Ghost Story rescue briefing was making my head swim.
I pedaled almost mechanically as I followed the agent.
“When entering a supernatural disaster, a bicycle is safer than traveling by car.”
‘Yes. Because most vehicles stop working inside Ghost Stories, or can trigger the worst possible accidents….’
It had been fun when I was just reading the setting, but actually doing it in real life was cold and exhausting.
For the record, the equipment I’d been given this time was even more varied than what I’d received as a temporary agent.
