Timothy Lillywhite, a shepherd boy working at a large sheep ranch, heard a “voice” one day.

Beyond the mountain’s foot, a single wolf was carrying off a sheep. It was well within a distance Timothy could see clearly. But Timothy didn’t get up.
The voice asked again. This time it was a different voice.
【We asked why you are not chasing it.】
The shepherd boy Timothy answered.
“Peter has gone nearly a month without eating.”
【Does the wolf have a name?】
Yet another voice.
“There are more than just Peter. They had pups a few months ago. Mary, Ivy, Roy…”
【So that’s why you leave the wolf alone?】
“Jasper died the day before yesterday. If he doesn’t eat again today, then next time Peter will die, and if Peter dies, the rest of the pups will die too.”
