〈6. Proof of Existence (47)〉
The girl’s gesture, as if about to swing the whip at any moment, stopped. It seemed curiosity had piqued her interest.
The eyes with only embers left stared directly at the girl.
“Did you say I ran away?”
“Of course.”
The girl answered in a clear voice like singing.
“You ran away to your family, right? Forgetting revenge, forgetting resentment… If you had lived burying it like that, it would have been comfortable.”
“……I see.”
The middle-aged man’s blue eyes glanced sideways.
That gaze was toward me.
“I was quite cowardly.”
A word uttered like a sigh.
That was the end. Once again, the wheels began to spew fierce electricity, and the girl matched it by extending the blood-red whip.
The outcome of the impending clash was obvious.
Mr. Reynolds had already clashed with the girl once. He couldn’t withstand it even then, so there was no need to mention now, with his internals all shaken up.
It was right after realizing this.
I didn’t know the reason, but before I knew it, I was struggling. To the point where I didn’t even know how much strength was left in this battered body.
“Kruk, kek… Rey, Reynolds……! Mr. Reynolds!”
But struggling was just struggling. Suddenly flailing wouldn’t make a sharp solution appear out of nowhere.
The two were already on the verge of collision, and I was too far from them. Moreover, if I couldn’t even move.
It was then.
With a snap, someone embracing Celine’s body rolled across the ground. Celine’s body flailed, but the woman on top gritted her teeth and held on.
It was Ria.
How on earth did Ria.
Before I could even make that judgment, Ria screamed.
“Hurry, go… Oppa!”
It felt like pure white lightning pierced through my spine.
I sprang up and chased after the sword and hand axe that had fallen on the ground. My beloved weapons had already rolled far away.
Time was already racing by seconds!
The moment I gritted my teeth and took a step.
“M-Master……!”
Grit, grit.
While grinding her teeth, Senior Elsie’s blue eyes turned toward me.
It wasn’t meaning she would incant. After releasing the restraints, even if she entered incantation, it would already be too late.
Nevertheless, Senior Elsie was signaling me with her eyes.
The point where the two were about to collide, continuously.
It didn’t take long for me to realize her intent.
Urgently leaping, my hands lifted Senior Elsie’s small frame.
Then, crackle, the dizzying pain climbing up my nerves.
“Grr, Aaaaaak!”
Forcibly suppressing the muscles trying to contract.
I lifted Senior Elsie and aimed at that distant place.
There, the girl was about to swing the whip while bursting into laughter.
“Try regretting it in the afterlife! Yourself for making a foolish choice……!”
Whoosh, Senior Elsie’s body, thrown with all my strength, flew through the air.
It was right after that the blood-red whip cleaved the world.
Until then, the girl didn’t hide her triumphant smile. Because she was certain of victory.
Probably, that intent would have been fulfilled.
If not for Senior Elsie.
With Senior Elsie suddenly appearing in front of her, time for me and the girl stopped for a moment.
Just from the sidelong glance, it was clear.
The one falling from the sky and the one standing on the ground.
The expressions of the two girls formed a clear contrast.
Senior Elsie, distorting her face in pain but not erasing her trembling smile.
On the other hand, the girl with wide-open eyes, spewing shock between her clenched teeth.
“What, nonsense…..!”
Crack crack, with a sound like bones twisting, the blood-red whip shattered arbitrarily.
It was because of the contract.
The girl had contracted not to touch Senior Elsie for today.
In exchange for me obediently indulging her whims while bound.
But I was released, and there was no means to reclaim the price already paid.
Just as the opponents the girl had traded with until now.
Buzz buzz, the air cries. The gale was running in ecstasy.
In the meantime, the girl somehow rolled her body to distance herself from Senior Elsie. Anyway, since Senior Elsie couldn’t move due to the electrocution, it seemed she judged that avoiding was enough.
It was the right judgment.
However, Senior Elsie wasn’t the only one who bought time.
My hands, running breathlessly, each held a sword and a hand axe.
The silver trajectory tore through the world.
Snap, the axe blade burrowed into the wrist of the girl who was urgently leaping.
The girl’s eyes, gritting her teeth, turned resentfully toward me.
However, that wasn’t the end.
Snap, the consecutively thrown blade struck the side of the girl’s knee.
Blood spurted out, and the girl’s posture shook slightly. Even so, the gap given was merely a few seconds, and it was right then that everyone’s attention turned to the sky for a moment.
Crash, and.
The sky collapsed.
It wasn’t a physical concept like the ceiling or roof. The air was literally collapsing. At first, it was just a small crack, but soon that fissure grew uncontrollably and dropped fragments in showers.
It’s visible.
Beyond there, white lightning was present. The electricity licking its tongue in infinite space seemed to smash human common sense head-on.
How could a single created being cause such a miracle.
Even the girl was at a loss for words, staring at the sky.
A boiling voice leaked through her clenched teeth.
“This can’t, be……!”
Staggering to her feet, the girl showed a vile smile.
Her shoulders were heaving for the first time.
It meant that damage had accumulated to some extent. Nevertheless, the girl bit into a blue arc at her lips.
As if she still had one move left.
Whoosh, tap.
The Great Mage’s gaze was still unwavering. Facing that blue flame, the girl let out a weak laugh.
“Good, good. I acknowledge it… Reynolds Rinella, you surprised me.”
“Is that the end of your last words?”
“No.”
Grit, grinding her teeth, the girl snapped her fingers.
Then, the hand about to throw the pitch-black rod flinched. My eyes widened in shock.
A faint blood-red thread was connected to that arm.
Just like when Celine was controlled.
“I told you… There is no salvation! No God! Only despair! You sold your fate to me at the end of that despair!”
The Great Mage’s eyes silently turned to his own hand. That hand, no longer listening to the brain’s commands, showed no movement at all, as if hardened.
The girl burst into laughter.
“Puha, Ahahahaha! Now, now you’ve proven it… No one will save you.”
Snap, pounding her own chest, the assertion continued.
“Only oneself! Only humans who abandoned God can save themselves! To begin with, intoxicated by emotions, when you rejected my mercy to spare you……!”
Whoosh, tap.
The girl’s words were cut off at once. The dumb gaze turned toward the pitch-black rod swimming in the air and falling.
“……I see.”
The girl’s gaze slowly turned to the Great Mage’s hand, and only after following that gaze could I finally notice.
Crackle, electricity was wrapping around the right arm.
By inducing electrocution, he had stiffened the muscles. So that it couldn’t move at all.
Even as the blood-red thread struggled to pull that arm, the Great Mage didn’t budge.
He merely repeated throwing and catching the pitch-black rod with the remaining hand.
Soon, the sky began to open.
“This, this… It’s a contract violation!”
The girl screamed, shouting with bloodshot eyes.
“Fulfill the contract right now, Reynolds Rinella! Your fate is mine! If you try to violate the contract with tricks, you’ll have your heart burst with pain you can’t even imagine……!”
“It seems like a good opportunity, so let me tell you our Rinella family’s motto. In-law miss.”
Spitting out blood with a ulck, the Great Mage smiled.
At the same time, whoosh, the thrown pitch-black rod didn’t return.
The crack in the sky was already invading the ground. Pure white lightning crackled as if unable to endure any longer, showing off its existence.
For the first time, fear rose in the girl’s golden eyes.
How to express this.
It was a whale made of lightning.
No matter how much I craned my neck and looked up endlessly, the end wasn’t visible. Even attempting to gauge that end felt blasphemous.
The giant of lightning crosses the boundary.
Thud, through the torn gap in the sky, the essence of light and heat was extending its hand.
“The fate of Rinella…….”
Only then did the girl hurriedly wrap her body with blood-red threads. But even that wouldn’t guarantee safety.
The clear fear in the golden eyes and the cold sweat beading on her forehead testified to that.
Right before the world was submerged in the sea of lightning like that.
“This can’t be……!”
The girl’s scream filled with disbelief leaked out.
“……Is decided by Rinella.”
The torn gap in the sky.
The wrath of the thunder god covering everything descended upon the ground.
