“Absolutely not!”
It was a night shrouded in thick darkness. On a gentle slope, I was raising my voice at a certain woman.
It was more of a scream than a refusal.
There was no response from the woman to my desperate tone insisting that it absolutely must not happen.
She merely looked at me with eyes that were both lonely and affectionate.
The faint smile on the woman’s lips was so incredibly beautiful.
That’s why I squeezed my vocal cords even more desperately and shouted.
“No, no, no… You’re saying you’ll stay here?! Look at that horizon! It’s a massive assault whose scale can’t even be estimated… If you stay alone, you’ll definitely die!”
“And if I don’t stay?”
With a tone filled with compassion, the woman asked me back while wearing a sorrowful smile.
“Then how many people will die? And what will become of humanity’s future without them?”
