“To tell the story of the dragon’s eye, I must first explain that.”

Garasani had received Bisabeol’s permission to discuss the matter long ago. Since Argio’s essence was that of a dragon and “Gio’s Portrait” was an eye of the Source, a moment when the story had to be told would inevitably arrive.

Thus, Garasani began the old tale without hesitation.

Originally, Bisabeol liked good people.

He had grown up in an exceedingly wealthy environment and matured into a fairly successful man of means. In this capitalist world, money often served as a plausible means of interaction even in the absence of a benevolent heart.

Bisabeol used it to compensate for what he lacked and gather people who would protect him and fight on his behalf.

The virtuous, the considerate, the altruistic. Their behavior followed patterns, making them easy to interact with. They understood and protected even people like Bisabeol, who struggled with ordinary interactions. They were remarkably convenient beings. Therefore, it was no lie that Bisabeol liked good people.

He had one such friend. A friend from before the Great Calamity.

“Let’s survive together.”

A fellow who constantly spouted pleasant nonsense.

Money did not become useless the instant the Great Calamity occurred. Bisabeol used his existing wealth to gather Artifacts and Items, and many people pestered him because of it.

His friend never did, however, which made him very comfortable to keep nearby. Even so, there were occasions when the man said things with which Bisabeol found it difficult even to pretend to sympathize. Feeling perversely irritated for no reason, Bisabeol would grin and answer this way.

“You’d better remember what you just said, understood?”

“Of course. Honestly, if not for me, who would keep you alive? Your personality is terrible.”
