Long ago, two merfolk called each other family.
The elder sister wished to analyze humanity’s limits, while the younger brother wished to learn about human culture.
The younger brother, Iser, dreamed that humans and merfolk would someday live together. It was a terribly absurd wish in an age overflowing with fear and contempt between the two races. The merman knew that too.
“A world where sky and sea are joined. That is an extraordinarily fine wish.”
The one who said this was the first human Iser ever met.
Long golden hair curling like waves. A blue gaze filled with wisdom. The man, who always preferred white clothing, introduced himself as a Priest and doctor.
“It is a story that makes one happy merely to hear.”
“…….”
He had been born with colors no merfolk could help but follow with their eyes.
The merman adored the white human.
“…Humans are lovable but capricious creatures. Is it still difficult to hope such a day will come?”
“I will not claim it will be easy. Humans and merfolk differ in that many respects.”
He offered realistic advice.
“Even humans hate one another because they fail to understand each other. Conflict between humans and merfolk is naturally greater.”
Then he added kind words.
“But if more people come to think like you, Iser, that day will eventually arrive.”
“…….”
“Ultimately, it is a matter of perception. I believe the emotion called hatred can always be overcome by understanding the other person.”
“…Your saying so brings me great joy.”
It was like a dream.
